The Obsessed Society
- Men must be strong, silent and successful
- Women must be emotional, restrained and virtuous
This obsession doesn’t protect anyone — it polices everyone. It creates an illusion that men are powerful and women are vulnerable, while the reality is far more complex. In the process, both men and women are trapped by expectations that punish anyone who steps outside the script. If we want a truly healthy, growing society, we must stop viewing needs, desires and struggles through a gendered lens.
Human needs are not gender-specific
Human Needs Are Universal
- Men need emotional closeness, support and romantic connection
- Men want to feel desirable, appreciated and seen
- Men enjoy learning, exploring and discovering preferences in relationships
- Men have the right to figure out what works for them emotionally, mentally and sexually — just as women do
It’s human. And yet, society acts like these needs only belong to women — or worse, that men are dangerous for having them.
How Society’s Obsession Distorts the Narrative
Myth 1: Men Have Social Freedom, Women Are Controlled
- Men are perceived as free, but that “freedom” is a mirage.
- Men face silent prisons — emotional suppression, financial expectations and legal risks.
- Society doesn’t support men’s feelings; it dismisses them as weakness.
Myth 2: Men Are Players, Women Are Easy
- These labels reduce human connection to stereotypes.
- Desire is natural. Consent, respect and honesty are what matter — not judgment based on gender.
Myth 3: Women Face Danger, Men Face No Barriers
- While women face safety issues, men face societal indifference to their struggles—mental health, emotional isolation, false accusations and legal vulnerability.
- Their pain is often invisible, their fear unspoken.
Myth 4: Women Are Emotional, Men Are Logical
- This limits both genders.
- Women can be deeply logical.
- Men can be deeply emotional.
- Let people be people, not categories.
Myth 5: Women Justify Feelings, Men Justify Intentions
- Why must anyone justify their humanity?
- Everyone deserves the right to feel, to express, and to explore without fear of being misunderstood, attacked, or shamed.
Correcting Myths Around Feminism
Feminism has long been associated with the pursuit of equality — a principle that should empower everyone, not prioritise one gender over another. Equality and non-discrimination are essential values that support freedom of speech and expression — so long as they do not incite violence, hatred, or the silencing of others. Humility, non-violence, and respectful communication must guide us in building a world where everyone can express themselves, listen freely and live without hierarchy, fear, or imbalance.
But today, we’re witnessing a shift that raises uncomfortable truths.
The Digital Mirror
Digital platforms have revolutionised how we interact by stripping away traditional social filters. In doing so, they’ve exposed human behavior — good and bad — in its rawest form. What was once hidden behind cultural decorum or social restraint is now on full display. This includes gender dynamics.
What many call a “change” in gender roles is, in reality, greater visibility of behaviours, choices, power plays and vulnerabilities that were always there — just less visible.
- Women now express autonomy more freely.
- And men’s struggles — especially those historically dismissed—are finally surfacing.
The shift isn’t in how people inherently behave, but in how openly and widely these behaviours are seen, judged and responded to. Society isn’t necessarily becoming more equal or unequal — it’s becoming more transparent.
The Double Standard
Society rightly applauds women for breaking free from outdated norms: choosing not to “settle,” asserting their desires and walking away from what no longer serves them.
But men? They’re still expected to stay, provide and protect—regardless of their emotional, financial, or psychological well-being. And if they don’t, they often face legal consequences, social judgment, or both.
This double standard shows up in several key ways:
This is not gender equality. This is selective liberation.
Where We Stand Today
We celebrate a woman’s right to desire, to choose and to leave. Yet we shame a man for desiring, choosing differently, or walking away from unfair expectations.
Real Growth Is Mutual
- Stop making men soft targets for blame. Recognize their emotional and legal struggles.
- Respect both men’s and women’s agency in choosing partners, walking away, expressing dissatisfaction, or embracing desires.
- Build emotional literacy across genders. Let boys cry. Let men be vulnerable. Let everyone feel without fear.
- Create legal and social structures that are fair, protective, and empathetic for all genders.
- Acknowledge the individuality of every human being. Not all men are the same. Not all women are the same. Honor the journey of each person.
- We must stop policing each other through gender myths.
- We must stop judging needs as masculine or feminine.
- And we must start embracing the simple truth.
Being human is not a gender role. Every voice matters — men’s and women’s. Every individual deserves emotional autonomy and the right to walk away from toxic systems without punishment. Every human deserves dignity without stereotype, desire without shame and love without fear.
It’s a shared experience. Let’s grow—together.
A Call for Balance
It’s time to shift from obsession to understanding. From control to compassion. Let’s correct the myth that feminism means female supremacy. Let’s return to its true roots: mutual respect, shared empowerment and balanced responsibility.
Men are not asking for control over women’s choices. They are asking for the freedom to be human – to walk away, to feel, to express, and to live without being pre-judged as threats or failures.
- It’s time we stop seeing male autonomy as a threat.
- It’s time we stop treating male desire as deviance.
- It’s time we offer men the same freedom we champion for women.
Let’s build a truly inclusive society—where freedom is mutual, respect is not gendered and no one is silenced or shamed for choosing peace over performance.
